Flow Time: 15 min- 2 Hours

Due to the Handcrafted nature of each item, each piece bears its own unique qualities.

How it Works:

The KB Collection moving sand art is interactive, ever-changing, mesmerizing and versatile handcrafted art pieces. Turn the sand picture over to watch the battle of the elements: The sand just wants to settle at the bottom, the air just wants to escape to the top, the water hosts the party. The result is the sand trickles between the air bubbles to create fascinating stratifications in the sand mountains.

You can turn the Deep Sea 180°  to create breathtaking mountains, valleys, and dunes. Or, just rotate the Deep Sea to create cascading sands. More air creates a slower flow of sand resulting in a delicate trickle of sand making more dramatic peaks and valleys. Less air creates a faster flow of sand making dune shapes. Best of all, these handcrafted art pieces are equipped with an air hole to last for years on end, allowing for you to regulate the amount of air in each sand picture so you can make the sand fall as fast or as slow as you want.

Klaus "Sandman" Bosch

Klaus Bosch (aka The Sandman) has been making his interactive KB Collection Sand Art in Lustenau, Austria since 1982. When Sandman was a younger man searching for his way in life, a friend of his gave him one of the original versions of sand art available in the '80s. He was captivated as his mind tried to wrap around the beauty of the art and why it did what it did. Fascinated, he decided to try to make one for himself. Trial after trial, failure after failure, he finally created a sand picture he could sell in 1988. Yes, 6 years of experimentation finally resulted in what you see today as the KB Collection sand art. Klaus is always thinking of ways to defy gravity with his sand art.

The original, classic sandblend is what you see in the Deep Sea Pacific and a few others models.

Since his first appearance at the Zurich Art Gallery in Switzerland in 1993, Klaus Bosch has been recognized as a master of this unique art in the international art field, and is honored as The Sandman, the master of kinetic pop art.

Sandman's world renowned sand art has been in the display windows (worldwide) of Louis Vuitton and Nordstrom's. He has been commissioned to make special gifts for Kings, Sultans, and famous dignitaries. His art can be found in gallery exhibits, museums, hotels, spas and businesses around the globe.

From Sandman:  "My sand art is spiritual, it contains a lot of questions and indicates answers at the same time.  It involves the beauty of what art once was while trying to give answers to our spirit and our inner calm."

"Don't try to understand my art with your mind. Feel it with your heart and use your imagination."

All The Magic Happens In The Sand Factory

The Sandman makes the KB Collection Sand Pictures in his studio in Lustenau, Austria. This beautiful small city is embraced by the Alps and overlooks the shores of Lake Constance. Klaus works closely with his small team of detail oriented, skilled craftsman to create his works of art that are beloved worldwide. Klaus is proud of the fair wages and exceptional work environment offered at his sand factory. Sandman makes sourcing from local companies a priority for all components used in the making of the sand art. Making ethical, sustainable art is a must.

At the sand factory extensive measures are taken to ensure that very little is wasted. All boxes are from recycled materials, as well as the cardboard inlays. All wood is sourced from certified sources to ensure sustainability. The KB Collection is designed to last a lifetime. Each piece comes equipped with air holes to adjust air and replenish the water. No throw and go cheap Chinese knock-offs are made. Care is taken in every aspect from beginning to end.

Each piece is handcrafted with love and attention to detail. The signature of the artist KB is your guarantee for the passion of crafting which is put into each sand art leaving the Sand Factory.

    Different than years ago?

I am enjoying the sand art very much! My only concern is that the wood seems different from my first piece I purchased years ago. It doesn’t seem to be as “heavy”. Has there been a change since 10 years ago? Thanks

Deep Sea Pacific Moving Sand Art - Fun to use once you get the air/water balance correct

This is a wonderful piece of interactive art. Kudos to Klaus. I'm a tinkerer so my experience may be different to others due to how much I've played around with adjusting the air/water balance. I've learned two things: 1. Don't remove water before playing with the air level, and 2. See #1. We're at 2,600+ feet above sea level so when our piece arrived I saw that there was about 3/4" inch of air below the rim. At first I just removed some air and it worked pretty well. After a few weeks the sand wasn't starting very well (needed more tapping so I adjusted the air to the guide level). That helped but I thought I should equalize the pressure and see if we were low on water. Hah! That was eye-opening as the air level dropped to 1.5" inches below the rim. So I added three syringes worth of water and adjusted the air back to about 1/2" below the rim. Well, that messed everything up. Whenever I turned over the sand it became very very cloudy and the sand would just fall fast no matter how small the bubbles were and how spread out they were. And now the sand level was way below half way when it was all at the bottom. So I removed the amount of water that I added and re-adjusted the air level and things started working better. The cloudiness went away for the most part and the sand behaved more like it did when first out of the box. This now begs the question as to how much water it really needs and how much negative pressure should be inside to get the optimum performance! Anyway, I love it and I'll likely tinker some more to get it just right.

    Relaxing...

So relaxing to watch... I've taken pictures of so many scenes because they're so intricate and beautiful, but find myself turning it to start anew.

A big hit with my family!

Appreciated the instructions and guide about adding more air. Especially helpful was the little paper you hold up to the top to gauge water and air line. Once we added more air, it was just as I remembered as a child. My own children really got into watching it and creating different scenes. Thank you!
